Getting Involved in the Communities We Serve — It’s All Part of the Blue KC Commitment
Blue KC is committed to improving the health and wellness of the individuals and families living and working in the communities that we serve. We fulfill that mission through charitable contributions, volunteer assistance, matching employee contributions, and by offering a special program that supports children’s health.
Charitable contributions
Our focus is on health and wellness mission driven organizations as well as those that enrich our community through social services, education, arts, culture and civic endeavors.
Through our community investment program, donations are made to a broad range of worthwhile causes and non-profit endeavors.
We donated $150,000 to area schools districts and higher education institutions to help better serve students; awarded $25,000 medical school grants to three medical schools in the city to help promote family medicine education and we continue to support five major safety-net clinics that provide care for the uninsured.
Volunteer assistance
Our employees share their time and talents to help organizations, such as Angel Flight, Ronald McDonald House, Horizon Academy, the ALS Association, the American Heart Association and Kansas City Public Television, to name a few.
Employees also participate in the United Way campaign each year. In 2011, our employees raised more than $208,000 through raffles, bake sales, dunk tanks and our corporate donation!
Special Program Supporting Children's Health
In 1992, we started The Caring Program for Children as a health insurance program for children whose families did not qualify for Medicaid and could not afford the cost of private health insurance. Today, this program also provides durable medical equipment and other health-related items to families who otherwise could not afford equipment and are not covered by state or federal programs or private insurance. Matching Employee Funds
Blue KC promotes wellness and encourages employees to participate in activities that foster healthy lifestyles. Through the matching funds program, we offer an incentive to help worthwhile causes in the community and improve our employee's health at the same time. Blue KC will match funds raised when employees participate in a charitable event that promotes physical activity.
