Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) employees should not use Blue KC assets for personal gain.
In general, Blue KC assets should be used for legitimate business purposes. Limited personal use of Blue KC owned or leased equipment and resources may be permitted when certain conditions are met. For more information, please refer to corporate policy and procedure: Information Security Policy V-12 for details.
Theft, carelessness and waste have a direct impact on the Blue KC’s profitability. For this reason, you may not use Blue KC assets for personal financial gain unrelated to Blue KC business. This includes:
a. Taking personally, or for family members , opportunities that are discovered through the use of corporate property, information or position;
b. Using corporate property, information, or position for personal or family gain;
c. Competing with Blue KC; and
d. Disclosure or use of confidential, proprietary or trade-secret corporate information for the personal profit or advantage of the individual or anyone else.
Employees, officers, and directors owe a duty to Blue KC to advance its legitimate interests when the opportunity to do so arises.
Blue KC assets include your time, along with items such as office supplies, computer equipment, telephone equipment, copying machines, and computer software.
Blue KC 's electronic mail system is the property of Blue KC and should be used first and foremost for Blue KC business purposes. Blue KC employees should conduct electronic mail communications in the same professional and respectful manner as all other internal or external communications with employees, customers and the public.
Blue KC may monitor employees' use of the electronic mail system on an "as needed" basis in a manner consistent with applicable state and federal laws. Any such monitoring will be conducted by authorized personnel only in order to protect Blue KC 's legitimate business interests. By using Blue KC 's electronic mail system, all employees consent to this monitoring at the discretion of Blue KC.
