Learn about Blue KC’s record retention policies.
We each must ensure that all business records are retained in accordance with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City’s (Blue KC) record retention policies.
Blue KC business records, including medical records, must be retained in accordance with the law and Blue KC's record and/or document retention policies. This includes paper records, electronic information such as computer files or electronic mail, or information stored on any other medium. No Blue KC employee may tamper with Blue KC business records, or remove or destroy Blue KC business records in a manner that is contrary to the Blue KC record retention policies. If you have a question concerning Blue KC's policies regarding the retention of a particular type of record or document, you should ask your supervisor for guidance, or refer to the Corporate Records Retention Schedule. At times, the Blue KC record retention policy, or parts thereof, may be placed on hold by the Legal Services Division in order to ensure the retention of documents that may relate to litigation or other legal matters. Employees receiving such orders shall comply with the retention standards provided by the Legal Division.
