Buyer Be Aware

Healthcare coverage is an important decision. So before you buy in, take the time to explore some important considerations. We want you to feel confident about choosing a health plan. And we want to point you to the right one for you.

Be Aware of: Your Coverage Needs

Who Will Be Covered?

Maybe you need individual coverage. Maybe you need coverage for your spouse and kids, too. Wherever you are in life, go with the plan that provides the best benefits for you and any dependents.

What Benefits Matter the Most?

Before you buy a plan, determine which services you and any dependents may use the most. Then create a list to help you prioritize your needs and compare different plan options.

Before choosing a plan, here are some things to consider

  • Convenient location of in-network doctors and hospitals
  • Choice of doctors
  • Hospital care
  • How long the plan offers coverage
  • Immunizations
  • Maternity care
  • Medical tests and X-rays
  • Mental healthcare
  • Office visits to doctors and specialist
  • Prescription drugs
  • Vision care
  • Well-child care

Be Aware of: Your Budget

The plan with the lowest premiums isn’t always the cheapest plan

Of course cost is an important factor in choosing a healthcare plan. But don’t let it be the only factor. Lower premiums may require higher deductibles, co–payments, or co–insurance – which can really add up. You may pay more upfront for a wider range of services, but what your insurance covers may matter more than the price tag.

Ultimately, the optimal plan is one that offers the benefits and coverage you need for the best overall cost for how you intend to use your benefits. Decide how much you can afford, and then compare plans in your budget based on your desired benefits.

Be Aware of: Your Network

Does your doctor participate in Blue KC’s network?

When you receive care from a provider outside the Blue KC network, it will generally cost you more, or may not be covered at all. So be sure to use an in-network doctor to get the most out of your plan benefits.

It’s easy to search for an in-network doctor. Simply go to the Blue KC Doctor and Hospital Finder. Or contact Blue KC Customer Service at 888-989-8842, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
