A special enrollment period (SEP) will be available January 1, 2024, for individuals losing Medicaid or Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage that\u2019s considered minimum essential coverage. This permanent policy replaces the temporary SEP for individuals losing Medicaid or CHIP that\u2019s in effect until July 31, 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SEP helps reduce gaps in coverage and allows for a more seamless transition into Marketplace coverage. It is available for 90 days after loss of coverage, which aligns with the 90-day Medicaid or CHIP reconsideration period. State-based and federally facilitated Marketplaces can provide more time for qualifying individuals to select a Marketplace plan if the state\u2019s Medicaid or CHIP reconsideration period is longer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
