3 ways to stay CMS compliant in 2024

Please review these tips for staying CMS compliant.

  1. If you use business reply cards to connect with prospects, be aware they expire after 12 months.
    • TIP: Write the date of collection on the card for reference.
  2. Always collect a Scope of Appointment (SOA) – either by paper, electronically, or call recording – when you meet with a client in person or on the phone. The SOA is valid for 12 months from the time it is collected.
    • TIP: Use the “Topics the agent and beneficiary discussed” space to document medications and providers the beneficiary inquired about. This protects you if a beneficiary files a complaint with CMS about formulary or network discrepancies.
  3. Be able to produce a SOA within 48 hours if requested by CMS or a carrier.
    • TIP: Keep the SOA for 10 years in a place that is secure but easily accessible. Use the electronic SOA feature in Connecture for ease.
