However, in recent years, the prices of some generics have risen substantially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CivicaScript\u00ae<sup>1<\/sup> has proven its ability to change that with its first product, abiraterone acetate, a generic treatment for prostate cancer. It\u2019s offered through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcbs.com\/news-and-insights\/article\/blue-cross-blue-shield-save-patients-generic-drug\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">partnership<\/a> with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) and 22 other Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Members have saved with CivicaScript abiraterone acetate<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A study published in May 2025 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/catalyst.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/CAT.24.0417\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst<\/a> examined the savings achieved by BCBS members who used CivicaScript\u2019s first generic drug:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Members who access abiraterone acetate through CivicaScript paid $45 per month<sup>2<\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Members who access abiraterone acetate from other manufacturers pay $126 a month<sup>2<\/sup><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CivicaScript directly saved members 64% \u2014 nearly $1,000 per year per member<sup>2<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Blue KC employer groups have saved, too<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as BCBS members have experienced the cost benefits of CivicaScript\u2019s abiraterone acetate, closer to home, Blue KC employer groups have, too. They&#8217;ve realized cost savings per claim averaging over 95%<sup>3<\/sup> per group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Danny Weiss, VP, Chief Pharmacy Officer, Blue KC, explains that these plan costs have a secondary benefit to members because reducing claims costs helps to reduce premiums for our members. We have seen this benefit directly over the two years that our plan has partnered with this lower cost option.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What makes CivicaScript unique<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CivicaScript works to develop and manufacture generic alternatives for drugs that have too little competition and too high a price.
