Studies show that families with regular routines report feeling more stable, less stressed and better connected (American Psychological Association). Children in homes with predictable routines have been shown to have better social and emotional health (Journal of Developmental &amp; Behavioral Pediatrics). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mornings can be the hardest. The average family takes 77 minutes to get everyone out the door (Ipsos Market Research) \u2014 and that\u2019s if things go smoothly. Planning ahead can make a difference. Laying out clothes, packing lunches and reviewing the next day\u2019s schedule the night before can streamline the process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Build a back-to-school routine that works <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Start Early \u2014<\/strong> Don\u2019t wait until the night before school starts to get back on schedule. About two weeks before school, begin adjusting bedtimes and wake-up times by 15 minutes each day. That way, your child\u2019s internal clock has time to adjust. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assign Family Roles \u2014<\/strong> A strong routine works best when everyone knows what\u2019s expected. Whether it\u2019s setting the table, walking the dog or putting away dishes, assigning roles helps kids feel included and responsible. Families who share responsibilities report lower stress and better cooperation. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plan for Extracurriculars \u2014<\/strong> Once school starts, it\u2019s easy for after-school activities to overwhelm your evenings. Sit down as a family each week and review the schedule. Set boundaries, like how many days per week your child can stay after school, so everyone has time to rest and recharge. <br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus on Nutrition \u2014<\/strong> Don\u2019t forget the power of meals. Eating dinner together even just a few nights a week helps kids feel secure and gives you a chance to check in. Keep breakfast simple but strong \u2014 protein, fiber and fruit \u2014 to fuel busy school mornings. Mastering your family routine isn\u2019t about perfection.
