\u201cI am extremely honored and humbled,\u201d said Rose, who has been coaching at Blue Valley for 37 years. \u201cI\u2019ve worked with so many great coaches and watched so many in action over my own competitive career and also as a college, high school and club coach. And I am very excited to be included with fellow coaches who help provide opportunities for the youth of Kansas City and live with strong values and ethics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rose was nominated for Blue KC Coaches with Character by Caitlin Truhe, an athletic trainer with the University of Kansas Health System which serves Blue Valley High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCoach Rose, or \u2018P. Rose\u2019 as we call her, lives her life in service of others: family, friends, school and community,\u201d said Truhe. \u201cPeggy brings an energy that is motivating and at the same time relatable. Her leadership is the quiet, ever-present kind. She may not be the loudest in the room, but athletes, fellow coaches and teachers are all confident in her opinion and advice. Peggy Rose is an institution at BVHS; an unofficial mascot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since coming to Blue Valley in 1981, Rose has been investing in the lives of her student-athletes. On the court and track, she helps her athletes recognize the importance of \u201cplaying for each other\u201d and valuing everyone\u2019s role on the team. One of Rose\u2019s favorite lessons to instill is that anything worth doing is worth doing right and well. And when it comes to mistakes, her encouragement to her athletes is to move on and focus on the next play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Off the court, Rose takes time to invest in the kids at Blue Valley. According to Truhe, she walks the halls knowing the first name of almost every student, and she focuses on finding out who her students are as people and learning how to encourage them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe takes the time to know you,\u201d said Truhe. \u201cShe\u2019ll learn about your family, your academics, and your passions. When you\u2019re having a bad day, she\u2019ll pull you aside and talk it through. Even after her practice ends, she comes to your game to cheer you on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to coaching track and field and freshman volleyball at Blue Valley, Rose also serves as a club volleyball coach for Team KC in the winter, gives private track clinics and serves as the athletic director at a summer camp in Michigan where she teaches activities to campers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt takes a person with a special heart and talent to coach for 37 years,\u201d said Dayton Moore, Royals GM and Founder\/Executive Director of CYITML. \u201cPeggy Rose is leaving an incredible legacy in the lives of not only her athletes, but, very likely, all of the students at Blue Valley High School.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a Blue KC Coaches with Character honoree, Rose joined Moore, Blue KC executives and the five other coaches who have been honored throughout the season, at a recognition event Monday night at Kauffman Stadium. Following a reception, the coaches were honored on the field during the first inning of the Royals game against the Chicago White Sox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the September recognition, Rose will be interviewed on 810 WHB and receive a VIP gift package from Blue KC and \u201cC\u201d You In The Major Leagues. Blue KC also made a $2,000 donation to CYITML in her honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
