As people age, the remodeling process changes and can become unbalanced. As a result, bones may become weaker and certain bone diseases may develop.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ability to process calcium \u2013 an essential nutrient for bone health \u2013 decreases, causing the body to pull the mineral from the skeleton and create brittle bones.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Osteoporosis risk factors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Men and women need to keep an eye on these osteoporosis risk factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chronic diseases, such as diabetes or\u00a0rheumatoid arthritis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regular use of certain medications, such as glucocorticoids.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parkinson\u2019s disease and other conditions that affect neurological function.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Low levels of the sex hormones testosterone and estrogen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unhealthy habits, such as smoking and drinking too much alcohol.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weak muscles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Being 65 or older.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Delay bone loss starting today<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following actions can help delay bone loss:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eat calcium- and vitamin D-rich foods to help keep your bones and joints healthy. Dairy, calcium-set tofu, green leafy vegetables, and small canned fish with soft bones (e.g. sardines) provide the most readily available sources of dietary calcium.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you take a calcium supplement or multivitamin, choose one that contains vitamin D.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of protein, fresh fruits, and vegetables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening excercises, which help reduce the risk of bone fractures and other injuries and help you recover faster if injured.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2
