Blue KC and Spira Care employees volunteered at 10 organizations throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is truly meaningful to see all the local organizations who benefited thanks to Blue KC employees during National Volunteer Week,\u201d said Macaela Stephenson, Director of Community Relations and Investment. \u201cBlue KC is committed to improving the health and wellness of the individuals and families living and working in the communities we serve. One way we fulfill this mission is through supporting non-profit organizations. Our employees are always going above and beyond to help those in need. It\u2019s a testament to Blue KC\u2019s continued focus on service to the Kansas City area community.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Young Family Farm<\/a> in Kansas City, Missouri, Spira Care employees spent Earth Day cleaning up the community garden and planting potatoes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Just up the road at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City<\/a>, teams from Blue KC cooked 100 lunches for the families staying in the homes while their children are being treated at Children\u2019s Mercy Hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n More employees worked to fight food insecurity and deserts at Harvesters<\/a> and Kanbe\u2019s Markets<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Still more employees helped out at Giving the Basics<\/a>, packaging 19,765 hygiene items, and Happy Bottoms<\/a>, where they wrapped 6,580 diapers for babies and families in need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n They capped off the week with time at Goodwill<\/a>, Synergy Services<\/a>, Junior Achievement of Greater Kansas City<\/a>, and School of Economics<\/a> \u2013 all with smiles on their faces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n W<\/a>ATCH VIDEO<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n All this work added up to 506 hours given back to Kansas City \u2013 that\u2019s a 194% increase from just two years ago. We\u2019re so thankful to have employees willing to help KC in a big way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Also in April, Blue KC was recognized at the Missouri Community Service Commission\u2019s 22nd Annual Show Me Service Awards with the award for Business of the Year for the Kansas City region. This wouldn\u2019t be possible without employees so willing to further the impact of our service and volunteerism in Kansas City. <\/p>\n\n\n\n To that end, we encourage employees to volunteer throughout the year with other company-organized events. In 2022, Blue KC instated a policy allowing employees eight hours of volunteer paid time off, or VTO, to volunteer at an organization of their choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This is all capped off with late-year campaigns to raise money for Kansas City nonprofits and families in need during the holiday season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We hope the picture is clear by now \u2013 Blue KC shows up for Kansas City. <\/p>\n\r\n\t\t\t![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.bluekc.com\/blueprint\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/05\/2024-Blue-KC-Volunteer-Appreciation-Week-1024x574.png\")
