KANSAS CITY, MO. (May 1, 2018) — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) and Shawnee Mission Health are pleased to announce the opening of the newest Spira Care Center, located in Shawnee, Kansas. Charlie J. (CJ) Matteson, M.D., has joined the Spira Care Team and will see members at Spira Care Shawnee beginning today.
Dr. Matteson is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician who brings more than a decade of experience to Spira Care Shawnee. He will lead a dedicated Care Team who will deliver high-quality, patient-focused and personalized care to eligible Blue KC members with no copays, deductibles or additional costs provided at the Care Center.*

Spira Care is a combined primary care and insurance offering created by Blue KC. It was developed through months of hands-on collaboration with members and patients to design a health plan and dedicated Care Center that’s easy to use and understand.

Dr. Matteson joins Spira Care Shawnee from Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, Kansas and previously served as Clinic Medical Director and Family Medicine Physician at Urgent Care of Olathe – part of the Olathe Health System. After earning his medical degree from University of Kansas School of Medicine, Dr. Matteson has dedicated his career to improving the quality of life for families of all stages through primary care.

*Services received outside of the Care Center from providers in the BlueSelect Plus network will be subject to the plan deductible. After the deductible is met, services received from BlueSelect Plus providers are covered at 100 percent. Members will also have the nationwide coverage of the BlueCard network outside the 32-county Blue KC service area. Non-emergency services received from non-network providers will not be covered under the plan.
