The Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA) protects patients from surprise medical bills and other health-related provisions. To do so, health insurers and health plans are required to submit certain information to the federal government.
Blue KC kicks off that process by requesting employer groups submit the following for calendar year 2022:
- Average monthly premium amount paid on behalf of members
- Average monthly premium amount paid by employees
- Total annual premium/premium equivalent amount
Blue KC will submit the required report on behalf of employer groups for the services we provide. For groups that carve out certain services such as pharmacy, the federal government will allow for multiple report submissions from separate entities.
In April, employer groups will receive an email and/or letter from Blue KC about the mandate with a link to a Qualtrics survey to submit their data. Please let your employer groups know about this requirement, the importance of complying, and the communication they will soon receive.
If a group does not receive the survey, they may not have a current email or address on file. Please share the following link that connects them directly to the survey. The group must input group name, ID, and email contact to respond to the survey.

If a group was with another insurance carrier in 2022, that health insurer will submit this information on its own behalf.
