PROPOSED CHANGE TO FEDERAL RULE MAY FIX ACA “FAMILY GLITCH”

May 2022

Earlier this month a rule change was proposed to fix what is known as the “family glitch” in the Affordable Care Act. The glitch makes many Kansas and Missouri families ineligible for premium tax credits to purchase affordable health care coverage through the Marketplace.

Fixing the glitch would lower premium costs and improve coverage for family members of employees who are offered employer-sponsored insurance. If the rule change is approved, it could be in effect as early as 2023.
