The American Rescue Plan Act May Help Lower Your Monthly Premiums
On March 11, 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 into law in order to improve access and affordability to healthcare through the Marketplace. This new law increases eligibility for financial assistance to help pay for Marketplace health coverage.
Since you’re covered by Blue KC Affordable Care Act (ACA) Individual and/or Family Plan, you may be eligible for these new benefits – even if you recently enrolled during the COVID-19 Special Enrollment Period.
It’s easy to determine your eligibility
Simply go online to www.BlueKC.com/quote to update your Marketplace application to determine if you are eligible to receive an enhanced subsidy in the form of advance tax credits. The enhanced subsidy will reduce your monthly premiums for the remainder of the year. We encourage you to act now – you may be able to choose a plan that offers lower out-of-pocket costs.
If you choose not to update your Marketplace application, you still have the option to claim the additional premium tax credits when you file your taxes next year. Any retroactive tax credits for previously paid premiums (for example, premiums paid for January, February, March and April) will be available when you file your taxes in 2022.
You can choose a new plan for the rest of the year, but you should consider how much you have already paid toward your deductible. When changing plans from one insurance carrier to another, please keep in mind that your deductible amounts may reset to zero and not carry over to a new plan. However, if changing plans from one Blue KC plan to another Blue KC plan, your deductible will carry over to your new Blue KC plan.
