ACA/IFP and small group brokers: 365-day, consecutive 90-day short-term plans to resume

Starting January 1, 2026, Blue KC will once again offer 365-day Short-Term Plus plans. Quoting and the online application for Short-Term Plus plans will be available on the Blue KC Agent Portal on November 1, 2025.

Additionally, we will resume allowing “stacking” of 90-day short-term plan enrollment up to the state-allowable duration.

What this means

  • Kansas short-term plan members must re-apply for coverage for 2026. This includes 90-day and 365-day plan members.
  • Missouri members in 90-day short-term plans (including one-month renewals) must re-apply at the end of their policy term or the end of the year, whichever comes first.
  • Missouri members in 365-day Short-Term Plus plans will automatically renew coverage on January 1, 2026. They must continue to pay their premium and adhere to contract provisions.

Other important information

Blue KC short-term plans term on December 31 of each calendar year or the end of their contract term, whichever comes first. Please advise clients of the term conditions and that they must re-apply. The only exception is for Missouri 365-day plan members who had coverage prior to January 1, 2025.

These changes come after recent federal and state guidance for short-term plans. Watch the Blue Agent for more information or reach out to your Blue KC representative for more information.
