Help members make the most of Spira Care

With many new Blue KC members gaining access to Spira Care this year, it’s important to remind them that Spira Care Centers provide advanced primary care for all ages across nine convenient metro locations.

Care is delivered by doctor-led teams that offer preventive services, chronic condition management, behavioral health support, pediatric care, diabetes care, lab services, immunizations, and virtual visits. Depending on the Blue KC plan a member is enrolled in, they will have no or low additional cost1 when receiving care at Spira Care Centers — helping make primary care convenient and affordable.

Spira Care visits require appointments, which help ensure members receive timely, uninterrupted care. Same-day and next-day appointments2 are often available, and many Care Centers offer evening and weekend hours.

Remind clients to have a heart-health check-in at Spira Care

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States for women and men3. Approximately 66% of women have one or more risk factors for coronary heart disease, and hormonal changes such as early menopause further increase lifetime risk4. For men, high blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke5.

Please remind members to talk to their Spira Care provider about heart-health risks and small steps that help prevent disease — such as getting adequate sleep, staying active, choosing heart-healthy foods, monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol, and managing stress. The annual wellness visit is a good time for members to talk to their provider about heart health and create a personalized prevention plan.

Remind members: Call Spira Care first

When members have a non-emergent health concern and are unsure where to go, encourage them to call Spira Care first at 913-29-SPIRA (77472). Registered nurses and an on-call provider can help members understand symptoms, navigate costs, and schedule the required appointments — often same day or next day.

Your partnership helps ensure members fully use their Spira Care benefit — and take proactive steps toward better heart health throughout the year.

1Blue KC members enrolled in plans (without a Health Savings Account) with exclusive access to Spira Care Centers will have no additional cost for any appointment or service provided at a Spira Care Center. Blue KC members enrolled in a plan with a Health Savings Account or HSA eligible with exclusive access to Spira Care Centers will incur a charge for an office visit at a Spira Care Center. Once a member has met their deductible, any future primary care needs at a Spira Care Center are at no additional cost. Preventive services are covered at 100%. For costs and further details of the coverage, including exclusions, any reductions or limitations and the terms under which the policy may be continued in force, see your insurance producer or contact Blue KC.
