Point qualifying clients to an ACA Special Enrollment Period
While the annual Open Enrollment Period (OEP) has ended for 2026 health plan coverage, your clients may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
SEP qualifying events include:
- Being at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
- Losing health coverage due to a life event
- Getting married or divorced
- Having or adopting a child
- Permanently moving somewhere with different health insurance options
- Aging off parent’s health insurance plan
- Losing a job, losing Medicaid or CHIP eligibility, or expiring COBRA coverage
- Having a change in income or household status that changes eligibility for tax
credits or cost-sharing reductions - Having a plan involuntarily canceled by an insurance company
Once you determine a client is eligible for an SEP, it is critical to provide the appropriate documentation as proof of the event. This list of documents is a helpful resource.
