Group clients asked to distribute health equity surveys to employees

As part of our goal to promote health equity and support member wellness, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) will be collecting member data in two important areas in 2024:

  • Demographic – Data on race, ethnicity, gender identity, and disability status will help measure inequities in healthcare, improve and develop our programs and services, and can help reduce healthcare inequities.
  • Determinants of health – Data on issues that affect overall health and well-being – such as access to affordable housing, nutritious food, transportation, and childcare – will help Blue KC develop and advance programs that address determinants of health our members face.

Blue KC representatives will contact large and small group clients to introduce our health equity programs. For large groups they’ll deliver our Community Health Playbook. The playbook explains the programs in detail and provides an action plan, materials for communicating to employees, and how-to steps.

Large groups will be contacted starting in January.  Small groups will be contacted later in 2024.

It is voluntary and confidential for employees to provide demographic data and participate in the determinants of health survey. Employers will not be able to associate employee names with their answers.

Blue KC is dedicated to promoting health equity and supporting member wellness. If you have questions about our programs and efforts in these areas, please contact your Blue KC representative.
