Groups asked to engage employees in health equity surveys
Tailoring health programs to member needs is one way Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) cares for members’ whole health and well-being.
However, understanding member needs relies on gathering their information, and we’re pleased to be better equipped now more than ever to do just that.
In 2024, Blue KC launched a program to collect member data using two health equity surveys:
- Demographic – Data on language, race, ethnicity, gender identity, and disability status
- Determinants of health – Data on issues that affect overall health and well-being, such as access to affordable housing, nutritious food, transportation, and childcare
With the data collected, Blue KC can develop and advance programs, such as the Community Support Tool and programs offered through the Blue KC Care Management app, which supplements the care members receive from their doctors.
Communicating health equity efforts
Blue KC sales representatives began contacting large groups in March to introduce our health equity efforts and are sharing our Community Health Playbook, which explains the program and includes employee communications and an action plan.
In the second half of the year, we will begin contacting small groups.
It is voluntary for employees to provide their information…and confidential. Employers will not be able to associate employee names with their answers.
Blue KC is dedicated to promoting health equity and supporting member wellness. Please remind clients of the importance of these surveys and encourage them to participate.
If you have questions about our programs and efforts in these areas, please contact your Blue KC representative.
