New benefits effective for 2024 plan year

Blue KC employer group members will benefit in 2024 from new federal and state guidance and mandates.  

Nutritional counseling coverage

As a result of updated mental health parity guidance from federal regulators, Blue KC will expand coverage for nutritional counseling for all diagnosis with no visit limits. Expanded coverage begins upon renewal beginning January 1, 2024, for fully insured, cost-plus, and self-funded/administrative services only (ASO) plans. 

Diagnostic breast MRI and ultrasound cost-sharing reduction 

A new Missouri mandate requires removing member cost sharing for diagnostic breast MRI and ultrasound services. The mandate applies to any Missouri group or individual plan and any Missouri member on a Kansas group plan. Blue KC has made a business decision to align this coverage for both KS and MO. The mandate is effective upon renewal beginning January 1, 2024, for fully insured non-HSA plans, cost-plus non-HSA plans, and ASO plans.  

Diabetes self-management training cost-sharing reduction 

After careful review of the IRS guidance for qualified high deductible health plans (HSA plans), Blue KC determined this important education for recently diagnosed diabetics can be provided at no member cost sharing, consistent with this coverage for non-HSA plans. Blue KC is aligning this coverage on both Kansas and Missouri plans. Coverage is effective upon renewal beginning January 1, 2024, for fully insured HSA plans, cost-plus HSA plans, and ASO HSA plans.
