October is a time to prioritize health — Let’s help Blue KC members stay on track

October is a key time to remind clients to take charge of their health with two important preventive actions: Getting a flu shot and scheduling a mammogram.

Flu shot

Getting an annual flu shot is a simple yet powerful way to stay healthy and protect loved ones. The CDC recommends getting vaccinated by the end of October to ensure coverage before flu season peaks1. Blue KC makes it easy for members of all ages — infants (6 months and older), children, teens, and adults — to get vaccinated.

The flu shot is especially important for those with chronic conditions like heart and lung disease, asthma, diabetes, and high blood pressure, as it helps reduce the risk of serious complications and hospitalizations1.

Mammogram

Now is always the perfect time to encourage eligible members to schedule their annual mammogram. Early detection saves lives, and preventive screenings like mammograms are covered at no additional cost2 for members on most Blue KC health plans.
