Travel medical insurance – It’s part of Blue KC group health plan benefits 

Travel medical insurance isn’t often on the checklist when people prepare for a trip. But it should be. Blue KC group health plans provide domestic and international coverage, which is an important benefit to call out to your clients. Take a minute to review Blue KC travel medical insurance coverage. 

Domestic travel  

Blue KC group health plans include coverage across the U.S. through the BlueCard program. Please stress to your clients the importance of understanding coverage before travel, such as: 

  • Always carry a current Blue KC member ID card or be prepared to access the card at MyBlueKC.com or on the MyBlueKC app. 
  • Show the member ID card when arriving at the in-network provider or hospital. 
  • Find a nearby, in-network provider or hospital using Find Care: 
    • Click Find Care on MyBlueKC.com or the MyBlueKC app. Change “City, state or zip” to current location 
    • In “Search for Names, Specialties, and Procedures,” enter the type of provider or care facility needed 

After receiving care: 

  • Members should not have to complete any claim forms if using an in-network provider or hospital.
  • Members should not have to pay upfront for medical services, except for the usual out-of-pocket expenses (non-covered services, deductible, copay, and coinsurance). 
  • Members should receive an explanation of benefits from Blue KC. 

International travel 

Global Core  

Global Core (formerly BlueCard Worldwide) provides international medical coverage and is part of Blue KC group health plans. Before traveling abroad, members should get to know Global Core, how it covers in-network and out-of-network providers and facilities, and care options in the cities and countries on the itinerary. These flyers provide more information. 

GeoBlue 

GeoBlue is a comprehensive international health insurance that members can purchase separately from their Blue KC policy. It features: 

  • 24/7 phone, web, mobile, and telemedicine support 
  • Prompt and convenient access to trusted doctors and hospitals 
  • Cashless appointments 
  • Appointment scheduling support 
  • Paperless claims resolution 
  • Destination health intelligence
