2023 Blue KC Answering the Call Honoree Maddie Lecompte
The first recipient for 2023 in the month of April is Maddie Lecompte, a behavioral health tech at the University of Kansas Health System’s Marillac campus. She is one of the front-line heroes working with patients experiencing behavioral health crisis. Maddie works with children and adolescents who are hospitalized after suicide attempts or seeking help with other significant mental and behavioral health challenges.
After graduating from the University of Missouri in 2018 with a degree in psychology, Maddie quickly discovered that she really connected with the mission to provide trauma-informed care to youth experiencing behavioral crisis. Intervention at an early age gives children an important advantage for positive growth, and she was excited to be a part of that process.
She has now passionately served in the behavioral health community for nearly five years. During that time, the rise in mental health awareness has been meteoric. more need in this space has launched more research and more tools. Maddie takes great satisfaction in supporting those seeking help and being able to provide resources, especially those who are at a young age.
Maddie’s dedication to help others was especially courageous during the uncertain times during the covid pandemic. While many of us were working from home, she enthusiastically showed up every day, pouring herself into helping patients in crises.
Maddie grew up in a small town near San Francisco until age nine, when her family moved to Leawood. She is grateful for the exceptional education received in our community and now, as an adult, is using her skills to make a difference.
Her advice to anyone who feels they might need help navigating challenges with their mental health, is that it’s absolutely okay to reach out to professionals for support. Progress in mental health isn’t easy – but it is possible – and you deserve to see what your life can look like with the right tools and resources.
For her dedication to serving a critical need in our community, Maddie will be honored with the Blue KC Answering the Call award at the Royals game this Friday night at the K.
