2025 Blue KC Coaches With Character Honoree Brent Reynolds
Olathe East High School boys’ and girls’ assistant tennis coach featured in the month of May
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) and the “C” You in the Major Leagues (CYITML) Foundation have announced Olathe East High School boys’ and girls’ assistant tennis coach, Brent Reynolds, as the Blue KC Coaches with Character honoree for the month of May.
Reynolds has taken on and embraced many roles that help identify and spotlight his character. He’s a family man, a father to his three daughters, a teacher for the past 19 years and a tennis coach. In his eyes, all three go hand-in-hand and have helped him grow into the outstanding and optimistic person that he is today.
“As a coach, I’m most proud every time my players go out and compete as hard as they can,” said Reynolds. “Additionally, I’m proud when they compete with good sportsmanship.”
The Olathe East community has supported Reynolds both on and off the tennis court in ways that have benefitted everyone involved in the program.

“The best part about coaching at my school is the student athletes, parents and school administration,” said Reynolds. “The student athletes are always ready to put the work in. We have such well-rounded kids, and it helps create a great experience for everyone. The parents are always extremely supportive of our student athletes and the program as a whole.”
With every day serving as a learning opportunity, Reynolds picks up numerous tips and tricks throughout his day-to-day life, but he was once advised to ‘embrace it’ and has since taken that advice and applied it to his coaching, teaching and family lifestyle.
“I’ve told my tennis players that if they put the work in, they will be successful,” said Reynolds. “But don’t forget to also have fun along the way. While I’ve only been coaching for a few years and spent nearly two decades as a teacher, I also see myself as a classroom coach. Success will come from hard work, and I’ll be there to help them along the way.”
Throughout his teaching and coaching background, Reynolds has continued to innovate and find new, creative ways to instill standards with his student athletes. He’s motivated and driven to provide the best value possible to the next generation that he interacts with on a daily basis.
“Standards are what make the individual,” said Reynolds. “Discipline, character and integrity are all important to instill to our young people, students and athletes since they are the future. My hope is that it doesn’t just help them throughout the school year at Olathe East, but it also helps them for a lifetime.”
“Brent personifies the word ‘character’ as he leads by example and models mental and moral qualities so that his players are leaders on and off the court,” said Reynolds nominator, Jen Fescoe. “He emphasizes that school and grades are the most important part of high school, even though his competitiveness as a coach would have you believe that it is tennis. He forms relationships and helps to foster individual growth. He’s a teacher, motivator and expects great things but also has shown his players how to breathe and flourish through defeat.”
“As you can tell from Coach Reynolds nominator, he has a tremendous understanding of how to positively impact both his tennis players and those he teaches in the classroom,” said Jenny Housley, Blue KC Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer. “He utilizes his skills to make lasting impacts on everyone he comes in contact with and does an extraordinary job setting each student athlete up for success at the next level and in the future. This special trait is one that we’re proud to recognize through this program.”
“This is truly an incredible honor, and I appreciate the recognition more than I could ever hope to express,” said Reynolds.
