New cancer support program coming to most Blue KC health plans

Starting January 1, 2026, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is expanding its cancer care support across most health plans — including fully insured, cost plus, ASO*, individual, small group, and large group segments.

Iris by OncoHealth®: Virtual cancer support

Blue KC members diagnosed with cancer will have access to Iris, a virtual platform that offers:

  • 24/7 support from licensed oncology nurses via chat, telephone, and video
  • Mental health care from oncology-specialized therapists
  • Nutrition guidance from registered dietitians
  • Educational resources

Iris complements physician-led treatment and supports members and caregivers at any stage — newly diagnosed, in treatment, or post recovery — all at no additional cost.**

In the coming months, Blue KC will share more details about the member journey with Iris, including how members will be contacted, how they can access the platform directly, and what the experience looks like from diagnosis through survivorship.

Improved oncology treatment management

Blue KC is also partnering with OncoHealth to enhance utilization management (UM) for cancer treatments. This helps ensure your covered members receive the most effective, safe, and affordable care through:

  • Evidence-based protocols
  • Expert clinical review
  • Faster treatment decisions

To support this initiative, Blue KC is actively working with our provider partners to inform them of our collaboration with OncoHealth for both oncology UM and virtual support services. This shared understanding helps align efforts across the care continuum, ensuring we deliver the best possible patient care and outcomes.

What this means for your health plan

This new offering helps you support your workforce with compassionate, high-quality cancer care — at no additional cost** to members — while also prioritizing the right care at the right time in the most appropriate care setting.
