Important information regarding Spira Care and Blue Medicare Advantage members
When Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) exits the Medicare Advantage (MA) market December 31, 2024, Blue KC MA members will no longer have access to Spira Care Centers. If a member’s primary care provider (PCP) is a Spira Care provider, they need to begin considering a new PCP.
Blue KC MA members will receive a Medicare notice of non-renewal of their Blue KC MA plan on or around October 2. It will include a list of alternative MA plan options for them to consider.
What you can do
Please begin conversations now with your clients about selecting an alternative MA plan and new PCP, as establishing care with a new provider can be a long process.
To prepare members for the transition to a new PCP, the Spira Care team is here to work with them to:
- Schedule annual wellness appointments to help make sure they are up to date on screenings and vaccinations.
- Update and refill prescription medications, as appropriate.
- Ensure electronic health records are updated with current personal information, health status, and diagnoses.
- Transfer medical records to their new provider after health coverage changes.
- Connect to resources, such as mental health support, care management, and diabetes education.
Members can schedule appointments or speak to a member of the Spira Care team by calling 913-297-7472.
