Open Enrollment is Around the Corner
Blue KC open enrollment for ACA Individual & Family Plans is around the corner. Here are some things to keep in mind when renewing or selecting a new Blue KC plan for 2026.
When is the Open Enrollment Period?
Open Enrollment Period (OEP) is when you can select or change your medical benefits for the upcoming year. For 2026, OEP is November 1, 2025 – January 15, 2026. Blue KC is excited to introduce new plans for 2026 that you can begin shopping for on November 1.
If you decide to switch to a different Blue KC plan, please make your selection by December 15, 2025, to ensure your plan is effective January 1, 2026. Plan changes made between December 16, 2025, and January 15, 2026, will be effective February 1, 2026.

How will I know when to renew my plan and how do I do it?
At the beginning of November, you will receive a letter in the mail from Blue KC that tells you everything you need to know about renewing your plan or selecting a new one. If we have your email, you will also receive emails throughout November and December that will remind you to renew or select a new plan.
What if I don’t want to change my plan?
You aren’t required to change your plan unless it’s no longer offered. The letter you receive early November will provide you with that information. However, it is important to review your coverage options each year. Prices and plan coverage, as well as your lifestyle and individual health, are constantly changing. You should make sure your existing plan is still the best for you in terms of coverage and cost.
How should I prepare for OEP?
Before the start of OEP, determine what coverage you’ll need in the coming year. Consider:
- Are your prescriptions and preferred providers covered under your current plan?
- Did you take full advantage of your plan in 2025?
- If your current plan includes Spira Care and you are looking to shop for a new Blue KC plan, make sure to select a new plan with Spira Care to have continued access.
- Do you have upcoming health needs (surgery, medication change, etc.) or changes to your medical history or family situation that require more or less coverage?
- Which benefits are most important to you?
