Travel medical insurance isn’t often on the checklist when preparing for a trip. But it should be. Your Blue KC health plan includes medical coverage for domestic and international travel. Get to know what’s covered and how to purchase additional international travel coverage, if needed.
Your plan’s domestic and international coverage
Domestic travel
Blue KC employer-sponsored health plans include coverage across the U.S. through the BlueCard program. When traveling, make the most of your benefits by following these tips:
- Always carry a current Blue KC member ID card or be prepared to access the card at MyBlueKC.com or on the MyBlueKC app.
- Show the member ID card when arriving at the in-network provider or hospital.
- Find an in-network provider or hospital in the city you’re visiting on Find Care:
- Click Find Care on MyBlueKC.com or the MyBlueKC app. Change “City, state or ZIP” to your current location.
- In “Search for Names, Specialties, and Procedures,” enter the type of provider or care facility needed.
After receiving care:
- You should not have to complete claim forms if using an in-network provider or hospital.
- You should not have to pay upfront for medical services, except the usual out-of-pocket expenses (non-covered services, deductible, copay, and coinsurance).
- You should receive an explanation of benefits from Blue KC.
International travel
Global® Core
Your Blue KC health plan also includes Global Core international medical coverage.
