Blue KC Invested in KC in 2024

As the only local not-for-profit health insurance provider in Kansas City, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is proud to support our community and the people and organizations who make it great. Looking back at 2024, we made meaningful investments throughout Kansas City and grew partnerships that will make a positive impact for years to come.

In partnership with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Blue KC and other Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies throughout the United States, committed to combat the youth mental health crisis in the United States through trauma-informed approaches to behavioral care with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. A trauma-informed approach to mental health will empower youth to heal, build resilience and navigate emotional challenges with greater effectiveness and long-term well-being. By partnering with our local club, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, we were able to fund trainings and provide information on trauma-informed practices to assist the work of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City so they can better support the emotional and mental well-being of the children they serve.

Our employees continued to give back their time, treasure, and talents through volunteer time off, group outings, and service on local boards and committees. During National Volunteer Appreciation Week in April 2024, Blue KC employees donated 424 hours of their time. And throughout the year, employees helped to back diapers at Happy Bottoms, decorate tiny homes for Veterans Community Project, and sort hygiene items for Giving the Basics.

In October 2024, Blue KC partnered with the United Way of Greater Kansas City for our annual Blue KC Cares Campaign. Our employees raised over $283,000 for the local organizations and initiatives that mean the most to them. Employees set a company record with over 68% participation in the campaign, which supported over 120 organizations. They enjoyed raising funds together and learning about the United Way through a mini golf experience, Chili Cook-Off, and fun raffles throughout the week.

Earlier in the year we were honored to receive an award from the Missouri Service Commission – the Show Me Service Award for Business of the Year in the Kansas City Region, in recognition of our commitment to our community. Additionally, Blue KC was elated to receive a Gold Award from the Customer Centric North America, US Customer Experience Awards for Best Corporate Social Responsibility – largely due to our work in youth mental health.

Founded in Kansas City in 1938, Blue KC is woven into the fabric of the local community. Looking back at the past 85-plus years, we’re truly proud of the work we’ve accomplished with our local partners and the meaningful investments we’ve made. These investments reflect our mission of making healthcare more accessible and affordable to our community, to improve the health of our members. We look forward to helping keep Kansas City healthy for another 85-plus years.
