KANSAS CITY, MO. (March 3, 2021)—Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is proud to be named a “Healthiest Employers” honoree by the Kansas City Business Journal for 2021. The annual award recognizes companies in Kansas City that prioritize employee well-being through comprehensive wellness programming and benefits.

“At Blue KC, we believe our mission to improve the health and well-being of our community begins within our own workforce,” said Erin Stucky, President and CEO, Blue KC. “We are honored to be recognized for our dedication to employee well-being, especially as the pandemic has increased work-life balance challenges and behavioral health needs.”

The award was assessed by Healthiest Employers LLC, a data and research company, based on a wellness program’s culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and interventions, and reporting and analysis. In total, 30 Kansas City-based organizations were recognized for their healthy employee efforts based on the number of employees. Blue KC is listed in the 500-1,499 employees category.

“Blue KC has continually invested in creating a healthy workplace culture where employees have access to on-site resources like fitness and nutrition classes. Over the past year, access to these resources has been virtual while most of our employees work from home to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Stucky. “I’m proud of how quickly we established and launched programs for this new working environment to continue to support our employees’ physical and behavioral health.”

In March 2020, when the majority of the Blue KC workforce began working from home, the company switched to offering fitness classes via Zoom with 17 out of 22 classes converting to virtual. Throughout the remainder of 2020, Blue KC held 680 classes with around 6,400 total participants.

To support the behavioral health of its members, Blue KC rolled out Mindful by Blue KC, which provides tools and services to address things like stress, depression, anxiety and substance use. As part of the rollout and through ongoing education of these services, 29 virtual learning sessions were offered to Blue KC employees with 1,410 dialing in.

In February, Blue KC was also awarded Platinum certification for Workplace Wellness by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce through the Healthy KC Workplace Wellness Certification Program. The program recognizes organizations committed to improving the physical and mental health and well-being of employees by instituting programs, tools and updates.

Blue KC is committed to balancing work and life priorities by emphasizing the health and well-being of its employees. To learn more about employee benefits and search available job openings at Blue KC, visit www.BlueKC.com.
