KANSAS CITY, MO. (December 14, 2021)–Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is proud to announce Maureen Vogel, Associate General Counsel, has been recognized by Missouri Lawyers Media as a 2021 “In-House Counsel Awards” honoree.

The Awards, launched in 2017, spotlight those who consistently excel in the legal departments of some of Missouri’s most significant businesses and organizations. In selecting the honorees, the panel not only looked at the expertise in the legal profession, but the commitment and impact these attorneys have made within their companies. They understand and demonstrate a unique blend as counselor and business strategist as they help guide their companies’ vision.

As Associate General Counsel, Vogel has worked tirelessly throughout 2021 to assist with matters related to Spira Care, a combined primary care and insurance offering exclusively available to eligible Blue KC members. She also provided legal support to modernize provider agreements, including those involving Blue KC Medicare Advantage. Vogel, who joined Blue KC in 2019, has spent more than two decades representing health care organizations in contract negotiations, litigation, peer review, and other high-stakes issues.

“The depth of experience that Maureen brings to Blue KC is invaluable. Navigating the complex legal and contractual issues within the healthcare space is no easy task, especially during a year in which we’ve continued to work remotely,” said Erin Stucky, President and CEO at Blue KC. “Maureen is a vital member of the Blue KC team, and I’m thrilled to see her receive this recognition. We’re lucky to have her.”

In addition to her role at Blue KC, Vogel has engaged in numerous community programs, including Operation Breakthrough, Girl Scouts of America, National Charity League, Inc., Greater Kansas City Chapter, and The Missouri Bar Mentorship Program – which pairs new Missouri lawyers with lawyers who have been in practice for several years to provide meaningful one-on-one mentoring.

“I come from a family of physicians and nurses, so aligning my legal career within the health care space has been a natural fit,” noted Vogel. “Health impacts everyone and being able to play a role in bringing about improvements in the industry has been very rewarding. In the past two years, and under the difficult circumstances of the pandemic, we’ve made significant progress on a variety of process improvements. I really enjoy contributing to Blue KC.”
