KANSAS CITY, MO. (September 15, 2022)—Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is proud to announce the continuation of its annual Summer Internship program. The 10-week, paid program provides participants with real world experience, professional training, networking, and unique team building events. This year’s class – made up of 22 students representing 17 colleges and universities – were assigned to 20 different work areas across Blue KC.

As part of their development, interns are placed within collaborative work groups to brainstorm creative solutions to an assigned case study. Near the conclusion of the program, these groups present their case study plans to Blue KC managers, supervisors, and Executive Council leadership members, generating invaluable experience while providing fresh and innovative thinking.

“Our summer intern program has been fantastic for Blue KC. Year after year, the caliber of students who participate is truly astounding,” says Emanuel McCrainey, Department Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Talent at Blue KC. “Our senior leadership and management teams are so impressed with the level of work each intern puts forth, especially with respect to the case study proposal each work group presents. We have so much to learn from these kids. It’s an honor to be involved.”

The Blue KC Internship program recruits a diverse range of potential participants from local and national colleges, universities, and HBCU’s, offering individuals an opportunity to gain insight and knowledge within the healthcare industry.

Additionally, select summer intern graduates have been chosen to take part in the newly-launched Blue KC College 2 Career program, in which participants perform a series of rotation-based assignments before being placed in a full-time role within the company. Together, the two programs provide Blue KC with a diverse and high-performing talent pipeline for potential future employment, cultivating leaders who drive the industry forward.
