KANSAS CITY, MO. (March 8, 2021)—Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Rally for Recovery’ commitment, alongside several other organizations across the country with a common goal: accelerate vaccinations, reopen safely, and defeat the pandemic.
“At the onset of the pandemic Blue KC took several steps to protect and support our employees, members and community with an unwavering commitment to improve their health and well-being,” said Mark Garrett, Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, Blue KC. “Joining the Rally to Recovery commitment was an easy decision for us but not one we take lightly. We recognize the important role we play in supporting our community’s well-being, especially during this pandemic, and believe that work begins with protecting our workforce so that they can be there to support our members’ healthcare and coverage needs.”
By joining this commitment, Blue KC agrees to continue to do their part in protecting employees, members and the Kansas City community by leading efforts to reignite the economy and defeat the pandemic. Blue KC has already taken vital steps toward this goal including:
- Enabling more than 75 percent of employees to temporarily work from home.
- Requiring masks and social distancing in the office.
- Providing regular updates on COVID-19 prevention, treatment, and vaccination through a variety of communication channels.
- Amplifying guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Kansas City Department of Health as well as the Missouri Department of Health and the Kansas Department of Health.
As part of this effort, Blue KC will also receive the latest guidance, information and expert resources related to vaccines and health and safety measures to share with employees, members and the Kansas City community, as they have done since the start of the pandemic.
