KANSAS CITY, MO. (September 21, 2022)—Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is excited to announce the launch of its inaugural Blue KC College 2 Career program. The program, which officially began in June, is open to former Blue KC interns who have graduated from college, received recommendations from their hiring manager, and are ready to begin their careers. Lasting 12 to 18 months, this year’s class will perform a series of rotation-based assignments to gain maximum exposure to multiple areas of the business unit aligned with their career interest, as well as two additional internal divisions, before being placed in a full-time role within Blue KC.

The program – which focuses on personal and professional development – aims to recruit and retain a diverse and high-performing talent pipeline for future Blue KC employment, cultivating leaders that drive the industry forward.

“Having interned with Blue KC last year, I already knew I wanted to begin my career here,” says Kori Brown, current Blue KC College 2 Career participant and recent graduate of Pittsburg State University. “I’m so honored to have been selected for this position. My department mentor, Kelly Cannon, has already taught me so much. I couldn’t have asked for a better situation and company to work for.”

Throughout the College 2 Career program, participants will take part in professional learning and development projects designed to assess their work styles, enhance their business acumen, and determine where their skills might best align within Blue KC.

To help guide their journey, each participant is paired with an established corporate mentor who provides direction, answers questions, and serves as a bridge between their Blue KC internship and the College 2 Career program.

“Acting as a mentor during this process has been a truly rewarding experience,” says Kelly Cannon, Director, Corporate Communications and Content Coordination at Blue KC. “Having worked with Kori Brown during her summer internship, I already knew what an exceptional young woman she was. Getting to collaborate with her has been so much fun. Kori has a bright future – she’s going to be a fantastic teammate and an invaluable asset to Blue KC.”

Each Blue KC College 2 Career participant receives competitive pay and full-time employee benefits throughout their time in the program. Considering a career in healthcare? Learn more: https://www.bluekc.com/consumer/blue-kc/careers.html.
