Well Stocked

Access to nutritious food is key to a healthy community. Today more than 350,000 people in Kansas City don't know where their next meal will come from. That's why we've launched Well Stocked, a new Blue KC initiative focused on bringing local partners together to increase awareness of hunger issues facing underserved areas in Kansas City. Look below to find educational opportunities and ways to get directly involved with local organizations who help feed our community.

What Can You Do?

Get Involved

Reach out to these organizations and find ways to offer your time, passion and expertise:

  • Harvesters Community Food Network – Search their calendar for different ways to help, from food delivery to donation sorting to front-desk greeting.
  • After the Harvest – Help collect produce that would otherwise go to waste—fruit and vegetables left in farmers’ fields after the harvest.
  • Cultivate Kansas City – If you have an interest in urban farming there are lots of great ways to get involved, from working in the field, to helping at events to assisting in the office.
  • Kansas City Community Gardens – Tons of great opportunities to get your hands dirty with one of their many programs and initiatives aimed at empowering low-income families to grow their own nutritious food.

Get Informed

The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City has developed the Cost of Food Insecurity (CFI) Calculator, a great resource that can help you better determine the impact hunger-related issues are having on your community or business. Access insightful data that can drive your efforts and shape your conversations about this important topic.

Macaela Stephenson, Manager of Community Relations

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City has been doing business for more than 80 years, but what we do goes beyond providing some of the best health insurance in our hometown. We partner with local people and organizations to create powerful initiatives to help our community become a more vibrant place to live, work, play and raise a family. For those reasons, we are proud to support a variety of organizations. It's about helping our members and Kansas City build a healthier future.
