KANSAS CITY, MO. (April 25, 2023)—Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) is proud to announce Tanika Bullock, Manager, IT Solution Delivery, has been selected as Blue KC’s 2023 Volunteer of the Year. The annual recognition honors an exceptional Blue KC employee who goes above and beyond in philanthropic service. In addition to being named Volunteer of the Year, Tanika received $1,000 to donate to the charity of her choice – Steppin Stone, a 501 (c) (3) organization that supports youth through coaching, mentoring, tutoring, sports and other activities. Each year, Tanika takes part in the Making Strides of KC Breast Cancer Walk. She is also an active member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, where she participates in activities and programs that the Kansas City, MO Alumnae Chapter leads, which include providing scholarship opportunities to high school students and contributing to national youth initiatives and other service opportunities within the community.

Additionally, Tanika represented Blue KC at the 17th annual Dancing with the Kansas City Stars event, a fundraiser benefiting Cristo Rey KC, which offers career prep education enhanced by an innovative corporate work study program to culturally diverse and ambitious students with economic need. In preparation for the March 25th event, Tanika dedicated over 80 hours of volunteer time in support of the students and programs of Cristo Rey.

It was such an honor to award her as our Employee of the Year,” said Macaela Stephenson, Director of Community Relations and Investment. “Blue KC is overflowing with inspiring individuals like Tanika who go above and beyond for those in need. It’s a testament to Blue KC’s continued focus on service to the Kansas City area community.”

The announcement of the 2023 Volunteer of the Year award coincides with National Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 16th through 22nd). Blue KC employees donated over 424 hours (the equivalent of $12,698.80) to organizations throughout the greater Kansas City community, including Ronald McDonald House CharitiesSleepyhead BedsHope House, and Harvesters.
