KANSAS CITY, MO. (December 14, 2020)—Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC), Missouri’s largest not-for-profit healthcare insurance provider, announced today that it is working with the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) to offer members in select Medicare Advantage plans expansion and connection to services that are intended to help Members with social determinants of.

“Blue KC is honored to work with MARC, who serves as an important conduit and catalyst to help so many in our community connect to the public services they need that they often can’t access on their own,” said Lori Rund, Vice President, Government Programs. “We’re pleased to be able to leverage MARC’s expertise to offer Medicare Advantage members tools they can use in those members’ efforts to improve their health. It’s critical that those shopping Medicare Advantage plans understand the totality of value this partnership can bring to them and their families.”

Starting Jan. 1, 2021, Blue KC members in the Blue Medicare Advantage Spira Care HMO plan can experience holistic care through Spira Care Centers, which offer a unique concierge service that treat the whole person, all in one space.

“The nonprofit community organizations in MARC’s Managed Services Network are all trusted local Kansas City service providers,” said James Stowe, PhD, Director, Aging & Adult Services and Lead, Managed Services Network “Being able to offer tools that may help members as they address social determinants of health within the Medicare Advantage space is in essence reinventing care for so many in our community in such a unique and positive way, allowing us to reach these members with the helpful resources.”
