KANSAS CITY, MO. (October 15, 2018) — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) maintained “Commendable” accreditation status from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for both its Blue Care HMO product and its Preferred-Care Blue PPO product. Blue Care is the highest rated HMO product in the states of Kansas and Missouri at 4.0 out of 5.0. No other competitor health plan holds this ranking in both states.
NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality. NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) is the most widely used performance measurement tool in healthcare. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of healthcare organizations and recognizes physicians in key clinical areas.
Blue KC earned a perfect score of 50.00 points on standards performance during the last NCQA survey. This is maintained for both products for the 3-year accreditation cycle. NCQA standards requirements include Quality Management and Improvement, Population Health Management, Network Management, Utilization Management, Credentialing and Recredentialing, Members’ Rights and Responsibilities and Member Connections.
It is no small feat to achieve “Commendable” accreditation status, earned by diligence, collaboration and a commitment to excellence in all areas of the company. Blue KC will hold the Commendable status until the fall of 2019, at which time the annual HEDIS review and performance on the Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems (CAHPS), will determine the accreditation status moving forward.
