KANSAS CITY, MO. (September 27, 2019)—Blue KC is proud to announce that through its longstanding support and the Well Stocked partnership with Harvesters – The Community Food Network, one million meals have been provided to Kansas Citians struggling with hunger and who lack access to healthy food options. Blue KC is committed to this partnership and will continue to provide healthy food to those in need through Well Stocked for years to come.
Macaela Stephenson, Blue KC Manager of Community Relations and Investment, was pleased of the progress of this partnership. “Access to nutritious food is key to a healthy community. Today more than 350,00 people in Kansas City don’t know where their next meal will come from. Through this partnership with Harvesters we’ve truly been able to make a change and I look forward to seeing how all of our partnerships will continue in the fight to combat hunger.”
This announcement coincides with September’s Hunger Action Month, a time for people across America to spread the word and take action on the hunger crisis which is plaguing our country. As part of Hunger Action Month, Blue KC, through its Well Stocked initiative, is hosting several events including a Pop-Up Farmers Market and volunteer opportunities for its employees.
Blue KC also announced the recipients of its annual Transforming KC Health Research Grant this month. The grant focuses on partnerships that aim to address socioeconomic and environmental barriers to health, specifically through research on improving access to nutritious foods in nutritionally insecure communities. The awarded partnership will receive up to $400,000 over two years to help combat food insecurity in the Kansas City area.
