KANSAS CITY, MO. (May 3, 2024)—The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines volunteer as “a person who voluntarily undertakes or expresses a willingness to undertake a service.”
At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC), we took that definition to heart in a big way during National Volunteer Week (April 22-26). Blue KC employees donated 506 hours (the equivalent of $16,945) to organizations in the greater Kansas City community, including:
- Cultivate KC
- Ronald McDonald House Charities
- Harvesters
- Giving the Basics
- Kanbe’s Markets
- School of Economics
- Happy Bottoms
- Goodwill
- Synergy Services
- Junior Achievement BizTown
“It is truly meaningful to see all the local organizations who benefited thanks to Blue KC employees during National Volunteer Week,” said Macaela Stephenson, Director of Community Relations and Investment. “Blue KC is committed to improving the health and wellness of the individuals and families living and working in the communities we serve. One way we fulfill this mission is through supporting non-profit organizations. Our employees are always going above and beyond to help those in need. It’s a testament to Blue KC’s continued focus on service to the Kansas City area community.”
Some of the highlights of the week included Blue KC employees packaging more than 19,000 hygiene items for the Giving the Basics charitable organization, which is headquartered in Kansas City, KS. Our employees cooked 100 meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City. At Happy Bottoms, Blue KC employees wrapped more than 6,000 diapers, which covers a month of diapers for 87 kids in the Kansas City metro area.
