Honoring Blue KC Dads

June 12, 2017

In honor of Father’s Day (Sunday, June 18) we’re recognizing a few of the awesome dads at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) by sharing their stories and what they love most about being a dad.

Andy

Andy Henry works in the Operations department and has worked at Blue KC for more than 10 years. Andy has three kids: Owen (9), Karsyn (8) and Beckett (6).

“Owen is hyper-competitive and doesn’t like to lose at all. Karsyn and Beckett are both methodical and determined to achieve what they set their mind to, be it through problem solving or implementing sales tactics to get their desired result.”

“The hardest part about being a dad is teaching them to appreciate what they have. My favorite part about being a dad is those moments when they succeed and it is apparent they know their preparation made that achievement possible.”

Gordy

Gordy Johnston works in the Government Markets department and has been at Blue KC for a total of 13 years. He has two boys: Colby (14) and Cooper (12).

“Colby enjoys football and target practice. Cooper likes soccer, football and wrestling.”

“I love watching them learn and try new things. I also enjoy being able to share experiences that I had with my dad like beekeeping and hunting. We enjoy fishing, hiking in Colorado and snowmobiling.”

“One of the most difficult things for me is watching my kids experience pain. As a parent, I would love to take away heartache and pain, but I do believe that overcoming adversity teaches valuable lessons and makes them more resilient.”

Brian

Brian Edwards works in the Customer Service department and has been at Blue KC for 12 years. He has two daughters: Briana (9) and Ariana (6).

“My girls are both very smart and competitive and enjoy drama, sports and Netflix. Right now, they are really into gymnastics. We like to have daddy-daughter date nights.”

“As far as how we’ll celebrate Father’s Day, you’ll have to ask my wife, I just show up!”

From the Blue KC family to yours, we’re wishing a happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures!
